Same of our most amazing sights are so close to Queenstown. This half day zig-zags spectacularly to the highest road pass in the country with expansive views of the Queenstown and the Wakatipu valley, then heads down to the quaintly restored gold mining settlement of Arrowtown. Picking up the historic gold mining theme we can explore wild and precipitous Skippers canyon, following the road cut into sheer rock by miners over a century ago or head into Gibbston Valley with it's short but rich history of gold mining, sheep grazing and now as the home of Pinot Noir wine in New Zealand
THIS ITINERARY IS - EXAMPLE - DESIGNED TO INSPIRE YOU.
Our route will be determined on the day by group preferences, weather and light conditions.
You will only be gone 4-5 hours but you will feel like you've been a million miles away and lost in time. We climb the Crown Range Road to the high pass where we look out across the Wakatipu Basin, with Queenstown in the distance, the Kawarau river flowing out of Lake Wakatipu, joined downstream by the fast flowing Shotover. We amble down the restored main street of Arrowtown and explore the old chinese market gardens before climbing again to experience legendary Skippers Canyon Road, hewn into the sides of a rugged valley over 100 years ago.
