North to Wanaka and Beyond

Available as a half-day or full day tour.

One Direction, So Much to Photograph

With such varied landscapes within a short distance from Queenstown, our tours work best when we explore a single direction..

This page is designed to inspire you with some of the sights you may see when we choose to travel north to Wanaka and beyond. Half day tours will take us to Wanaka, exploring sites along the way. Full days allow us to take more time and head beyond Wanaka, following the lake up into alpine rivers or looping back to Queenstown through Cromwell with its vinyards and gold history.

How far we travel also depends on whether we stop frequently to take lots of shots or whether we pick fewer locations and explore creative options at each site. Our tour takes you to the places we know best and love most. We love sharing these special locations with you because they are different every tome we go. This page should give you an idea of what there is to see in this direction.

With so many options in this direction, tell us what interests you most. We'll discuss at the start of the tour, taking your photography experience and interestes, your equipment, light and weather conditions into account to design a great day's photography.

Full Day Photography Tour - 8 to 9 hours

With a full day at our disposal, we are granted a generous 8-9 hours to explore the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand. Our all-day adventure commences with stunning morning views of the Wakatipu Basin from the highest road pass in the country.

We then embark on a sweeping journey through the awe-inspiring Cardrona Valley, passing by the historic old pub at Cardrona, before arriving at the magnificent Lake Wanaka.  This South Island gem boasts a magical backdrop of Mount Aspiring and the Southern Alps, providing us with an opportunity to capture one of New Zealand's photographic icons - the Wanaka Tree.

As we continue our journey, we venture through Glendhu Bay, the Motutapu Ravine, and into the valley of the fast-flowing Matukituki River. The wide alluvial plane of the Matukituki is home to deer and sheep, but as we drive further, the valley narrows and the high-sided walls become steeper. At the road's end, we are surrounded by snow-clad peaks, where water cascades down sheer walls around us. A sense of remoteness and the power of nature are omnipresent here, leaving us in awe of the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Alternatively, we have the option to loop back to Queenstown through the historic gold mining, fruit, and wine-growing area around Cromwell. This region is steeped in history and offers a glimpse into New Zealand's rich past.

Join us on this unforgettable journey as we explore the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, capturing the essence of its natural beauty and rich history.
